Found Color: Simultaneous contrast

The perception of a color is strongly influenced by it’s surrounding color.

Cut two 4 x 4 inch squares out of paper and place them on one sheet (I’ll give you the placement template). In the middle of each big square you’ll place a 1 x 1 inch colored square. The goal and challenge is to change the appearance/perception of those small colored squares by placing them on different background colors.

You’ll be working on 3 tasks:
1. the same colored 1 x 1 inch squares should appear different
2. different colored 1 x 1 inch squares should appear as the same color
3. make a blue/cold color appear more vibrant/active than a red/warm color
